first harvest

Aside from some herbs, this yellow summer squash was the first item that I’ve harvested from the garden this summer. I decided to celebrate its picking with a meal planned just around it. The result was a pasta dish with summer squash and lemon grilled chicken. To garnish the dish I used some of my garlic chives and lemon basil.  Accompanying the pasta, freshly baked gruyere and thyme (also from my garden) biscuits. Now, if only my tomatoes would ripen at warp speed.  What are you growing this summer? And how do you plan on incorporating them in your meals?

I envy you, so far, up here in Upstate New York, the only thing we have harvested has been our herbs. No squash, nothing.

The herbs are going crazy on the deck. I didn’t plant anything else. I will rely on the farmer’s markets which have had some nice things over the past two weeks. I now have enough basil to make Ina Garten’s pesto… the best recipe ever for pesto. I bought some Thai Basil plants and thay are also going crazy. Looking forward to making Thai Basil (love that dish). Unfortunately due to traveling and busy schedules, I hardly cook a meal anymore.
